Plant Care Guidelines

Adaptation:  Throughout the United States.

Flowering Time:  Fall through late spring in zones 9 and 10. Spring through midsummer in colder areas. To determine your zone, see the map in Plant Climate Zone Map.

Light:  Full sun.

Planting Time:  Plant in the fall in zones 9 and 10. In colder areas, plant in the spring when all danger of frost is past.

Soil:  Any good garden soil. pH 6.0 to 7.5.

Fertilizer:  Fertilize with a balanced plant food according to label directions.

Water:
How much: Apply enough water to wet the soil to 12 inches deep.

Containers: Apply enough water so that 10 percent of the water drains from the bottom of the container.

How often: Water when the soil 1 inch below the surface is just barely moist.

Handling:  For bushy plants, pinch off growing tips when the plants have 4 to 6 sets of leaves. Cut back the fading flower spikes to stimulate continued bloom.
